Over the years, many web editing programmes have come and gone including the late and not much lamented Microsoft Frontpage. The one programme that has swept aside the opposition is Dreamweaver. Originally developed by Macromedia, Dreamweaver was bought by Adobe to add to it’s suite of graphic design products.

So, whilst dreamweaver is definitely the daddy, are there any other serious contenders for your web design money?
Microsoft Expressions.
With the demise of Frontpage came the emergence of Expression. Unfortunately, this came all to late for serious web designers. Microsoft Expression retails at around £129

Serif Webplus.
Designed to make things as simple as possible, Webplus has many advantages for the novice web designer. There’s a free version and the full version retails at around £80.

Netobjects Fusion.
Netobjects Fusion is one of the few survivors of the last decade. Now on version 11, the software has lots of gadgets to make your life easier. Enter your Google analytics code just once, and Netobjects will add it to every page automatically. Not the leanest of code, but easy to use for beginners. Costs around £150
